trigger fiction.

So, a ways back I mentioned a super secret writing project that was coming in April.

Well, April is almost here, so it is time to, in the words of an adorable cartoon mouse: “Wewease da secwet weapon!!”

The project involves me making a fool out of myself by trying to write fiction… every day… and then putting it on the internet. Yeah, not my best idea, but I’m rolling with it. The details (along with the project itself) can be found here. The details are already up, but the project itself doesn’t begin until April 8th.

Check it out, peoples. You know, if you want to that is.

  1. This is such an epic idea. I’m so jealous! In my dream life, I will write a book (or ten) – some fiction, a memoir, musings on therapy and theology. I have a stack of books waiting for the day when I have a block of time to write, really write. The desire hits me like a tidal wave every school break. Last Christmas, I half-seriously considered leaving school for a semester to write in a cabin somewhere. Sigh. Anyway, here are some must-reads for the aspiring fiction writer (some of which I’m sure you already know about):

    – The Writing Life, Annie Dillard
    – Living by Fiction, Annie Dillard
    – Bird by Bird, Anne Lamott
    – The Writer’s Portable Mentor, Priscilla Long
    – How Fiction Works, James Wood
    – Aspects of the Novel, E.M. Forster
    – Writing Tools, Roy Peter Clark

Thanks, I’m glad you like the idea. I appreciate the encouragement.

I fantasize about going away to write, too, but I dream of getting on a train and writing as I travel the country for a month, going wherever I feel like going that day.

I actually planned to read ‘Bird by Bird’ starting the day I begin the project, but I haven’t heard of the whole second half of your list. They look great, I can’t wait to check them out. That’s a huge help!
